In
the tapestry of virtues that shape our existence, gratitude stands as a radiant
jewel, illuminating our lives. It is in this radiant light that we celebrate
the embodiment of lofty virtue found in the remarkable journey of Hon’ble Dasho
Dr. Jamyang Namgyel and his parents. An unspoken symphony of appreciation binds
our hearts, as my wife and I reflect upon our roles as teachers at Nangkor
Central School. Dasho Jamyang has woven himself into the very fabric of our
memories, his presence radiating warmth since his early days in class IV. He
carried with him a demeanour of noble manners, sublime values and virtues,
bestowed upon him by his virtuous parents. His father, a journalist, wielded
the power of the pen to enfold me in his words. A tribute or two along his
literary journey etched me into the good books of the highest authorities of
the Kingdom, where Prof. K.C. Jose of Kerala added a special chapter to my
narrative.
Dasho
Jamyang, even in his nascent years, exuded qualities of leadership that caught
our attention from the very beginning. His brilliance shone as he emerged as
the national topper in the class VIII Board Exam. His academic journey took him
to Pondicherry, India, where he pursued a medical course. Marvellously, he
became the General Secretary of the Students’ Union in Pondicherry, a testament
to his charismatic leadership. Despite his identity as a foreigner, he was
elected by the Indian students of the medical college as their leader, a
shining example of unity transcending boundaries.
Furthering
his academic pursuits, he embarked on a journey to Canada, where he earned his
Master's degree. The culmination of his education marked a new chapter of
service, where he dedicated a decade to the betterment of his nation as a
doctor. A visionary spirit ignited within him, propelling him to extend the
horizons of his service to the nation. And so, he courageously bade farewell to
his medical career, stepping into the arena of politics. In the face of
challenges, he contested the National Council Election and emerged triumphant
with a sweeping majority. At a relatively young age of 34, he ascended the
ranks of a Parliamentarian in the Bhutanese Parliament. The hand of destiny has
indeed favoured this brave soul.
In the embrace of this esteemed position, Dasho Jamyang sought to honour the roots from which he had sprung. A noble gesture of gratitude unfurled its wings as he, accompanied by six dear friends, graced my humble abode on Thursday, the 24th of August, 2023. Their presence was a poignant acknowledgment, a silent declaration of reverence. As he embarked on his journey to his hometown, Pemagatshel, in Eastern Bhutan, after attending his first Parliamentary Session as the M.P, this gesture of gratitude stood as a tribute to the teachings that had shaped his path.
Our
moments together, encompassing three precious hours, were an embodiment of
shared stories and heartfelt camaraderie. It echoed the eternal truth that
humanity is the cornerstone of all religions, transcending boundaries and
creed.
On
the screen of time, a memory surfaces—a conversation with his father, Mr. Gyembo
Namgyal. I inquired, "Sir, when do you plan to acquire a
four-wheeler?" A warm chuckle met my question, and his jovial response was,
"My three children are my three cars." Within this simple yet
profound declaration, the essence of fatherhood and the love he held for his
offspring revealed itself.
As
we gather these threads of gratitude, we weave a portrait of Dasho Jamyang
Namgyel and his family—a portrait adorned with virtues, leadership, service,
and most importantly, gratitude. It is this synergy that we honour, a tribute
to the benevolent echoes of the human spirit that resonate through generations.
May
this narrative continue to inspire and uplift, reminding us that in the art of
giving thanks, we embrace the celestial essence within us all.
